Introducing Creation Stations!
|
At Paynter Elementary, the traditional library has been transformed into a library media center with a Creation Station where STEAM lessons occur. Students in all grade levels (K-5) spend 6 weeks in library class. In addition to the traditional lessons about books and research, children are able to work on lessons that include engineering projects, coding, and technology.
Depending on the grade level, students have the opportunity to design and create things such as; pop-up cards, paper roller coasters, dream rooms, electric circuits, bridges, simple machines, and robots. Donations of items have been generously shared by parents and staff members. Additional items for our Creation Station have been purchased by the district and via grant money. These items include: BeeBots and Lego Robotics kits to help work on coding, Lego Simple Machine kits, 10 iPads, Lego Story Starter kits that are used in grades 3-5 for projects, and a green screen. |
Mrs. Rellick's 1st Grade STEAM WEATHER unit!
|
Mrs. Rellick's classroom engaged in an exciting multi-disciplinary extension to first grade's ASSET-STEAM education WEATHER UNIT!
Students applied what they learned through weather related science experiments, the engineering process and science note-booking to go through the writing process and “publish” a non-fiction book about WEATHER! Students worked in collaborative groups to combine the elements of non-fiction writing with applied learning of weather facts and concepts. First graders used iPads and research guided by QR codes to expand upon knowledge of weather concepts such as: the water cycle, evaporation, temperature, clouds, precipitation, wind and temperature. The class concluded the project with an iMovie weather report created by the students! This STEAM based project integrates science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. |
