Bee-Bot Coding!
As a final activity for the first week session, students in Mrs. Chir's room were busy programming our Bee-Bots to move different directions to arrive at a specific location. Their task was to code the Bee-Bot to move forward, backward, or turn in order to have it reach the right destination. Collaboration and strategic thinking were key to achieving success. Although the students often had to readjust or "debug" their code, every group was able to program the Bee-Bot successfully.

Amazing Sea Animals!
The first graders in Room 120 have been busy completing a research project on sea animals. Using nonfiction books, the students had to find out new and interesting facts about a particular sea animal. After reading and writing facts about the animal, they worked to create a replica of their animal by using materials in the library. To complete the research project, the students will read their facts as their animals swim across the ocean using the green screen. You will be able to see the students' completed projects as soon as they are done and uploaded on the website. Please click on the link below to watch the final project the students created after all their hard work.

The Three Little Pigs
The students in Mrs. Golden's classroom have been reading the story, The Three
Little Pigs. They read several versions of the story in both their classroom and the library in order to compare and discuss the tradition of fairy tales. After hearing the story, the students made character puppets and props in their classroom. Then
working in small groups, the students retold the story using their puppets and props. To see the students retelling this well-known tale, click on this link to visit the MES Library's site.
After the retelling of the story, the students returned to their classroom and designed a house that could withstand the big bad wolf's attempts to blow it down. To see the students house designs check out the video below.
