Partners Music!
A Partners Music course provides children with significant disabilities an opportunity to participate in the arts with peer support. Many individuals come together for students who are not able to participate fully in an unrestricted music program. The use of partners in the class enables many modifications to each activity within a class. These activities and class structure contribute to the children's physical, mental, and social well-being. These activities are not only concerned with the present development of the students but also are designed to promote leisure-time activities and an awareness of the importance of social development for their adult lives. Essentially, we are teaching them how to play instruments such as the piano. Typically, this occurs on a daily basis but not for every class. At times, we also apply various other musical genres, and classes incorporating basic musical terms. Kris Tranter and Josh Stahl designed the curriculum from scratch and implement one of the leading programs in the commonwealth. We have successfully sustained a positive organizational change in a public school setting. The costs were low considering curriculum development and material purchases which were minimal at best. Keeping intellectual sensitivity in mind, we developed the role of different types of leadership toward student achievement and highlighted the importance of being in a social setting.
